The fluoropolymer FEP is a copolymer. The difference to PTFE is that a monomer is exchanged. The polymerization is carried out with HFP and TFE, resulting in FEP.
The effect of this change is to break the crystallinity of FEP compared to PTFE. (70% FEP vs. 98% PTFE). As a result, FEP has a much lower melting point and can be melt-processed.
Properties of FEP
Chemical resistance, lower surface energy and electrical resistance remain the same as PTFE
Continuous use temperature up to 204°C [399 °F]
Coefficient of friction 0.2
