Explanation of terms 
  1. PFAS:
    Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds according to the OECD definition 2021, including fluorinated-polyme
  2. LMW-PFAS:
    Low-molecular-weight (LMW) PFAS are migratable and extractable with solvents or food simulan
  3. Fluorpolymers:
    Are food safe and mean here: PTFE, PFA or FEP
  4. Others fluorine-containing polymers are not used by ILA
  5. Test substance selection:
    As is often the case for ubiquitously distributed substance groups, not all testing laboratories take identical substance lists. In the absence of an official or generally recognised test substance selection the test laboratory must proceed on its own responsibility
  6. Criteria for test substance selection of PFAS for a test material type:
    - have already been measured there
    - their occurrence is expected here
    - limit value prescribed by law

PFAS-free testing scheme for EU-market

acc. to ECHA PFAS restriction proposal February 23, 2023.
Voluntary, as no legal reference exists in EU.

  1. Confirmation letter from coating producer
    No PFAS (including fluoropolymers) intentionally added
  2. Target analysis of low molecular weight PFAS    (LC/GC MS/MS-Nachweis von Einzelstoffen)
    < 25 ppb single PFAS substance
    < 250 ppb sum of measured PFAS
  3. Total organic fluorine test (TOF)    (organisch gebundene Fluorverbindungen sind nicht vollständig getrennt von Anorganischen nachweisbar)
    < 50 mg F/kg (ppm)

    If more than 50 mg F/kg (ppm) are found please follow point 4
  4. Coating supplier fluorine origin assessment
    Of non-PFAS fluorine sources in the coating, as minerals, mica, pigments
